About Dove and Epic-Nerd.com

Welcome to the site. I have been searching for a place to blog, and then I remembered that I owned this domain. Most of the things I want to blog about do not really fall under the heading of “nostalgia”, unless you were present for my childhood/formative years. And unless you’re Wing, you weren’t.

IRL Stories

I’ve been telling stories of the frankly ludicrous place I worked and today (19 November 2017), Raven, my husband, said I should publish them. Since that would get me sued (even though they’re true – word to the wise, do not tango with law firms), I’ve decided to tell them under a pseudonym (both me and the company) and here they will live. The law firm is referred to as Dodge & Burrow.

Also up for grabs are stories about my life at school, allegedly a top 20 non-grammar school in the country, but never a place I did well in. I also have stories about the snobbery of Pony Club, and a weird girl named Stacey, who tried to ruin my life more than once… for no discernable reason.

(All names have been changed for my IRL Stories.)

The Sims

This is also where my legacies live. I know looking at this that I appear to be one of those idiots that never finishes a legacy, but I’ve had two computer explosions, and finally I’ve moved on.

I have conflicts over which game to play, I love Sims 2, 3 and 4 for different reasons, and swing between them for gameplay, but mostly I’ll just cap the Sims 2.

Other Sites

You can find me online recapping Sweet Valley and Point Horror.

I have gotten so bored of updating here and LJ, and since LJ is the active place where there are actual comments, I’m moving there full time.

It’s such a faff changing the format from WordPress to LJ, it always goes wrong, causing hours of messing around, trying to figure out why there are eight blank lines between each picture.  I will update exclusively at LJ from now on.

You can find everything at thestalkysims at Livejournal

The Vortekz Legacy

The Vortekz Legacy: Gen 1.1

Welcome to my new TS3 ISBI legacy. Now that I can get it to run on my computer, I’m going to alternate between TS3 and TS2.

What’s with the surname? Well, I’m not being l33t, it’s in the same theme as the Moxleys. Wrestling. I borrowed Scotty Vortekz’s surname. Let’s hope he doesn’t mind. Wrestlers have the best surnames. I’m saving the wrestling first names for the Moxleys, so my first torchholder has a first name that begins with A, her kids will have B names, etc. And yes, I’m going to recycle Ava, because it’s such a pretty name.

I have all the EPs except Late Night and Island Paradise, and no stuff packs. I’ve barely played TS3 at all, so everything is new and exciting to me, and I will squee long and hard about it. So if you’re a jaded veteran of TS3, my silly exclamations may not be what you’re looking for.

My lifespan lengths are:

  • Baby: 2 days
  • Toddler: 2 days
  • Child: 7 days
  • Teen: 12 days
  • YA: 21 days
  • Adult: 21 days
  • Elder: 7 days

My torch holder is called Ava, she’s a dramatic, eccentric, irresistible kleptomaniac who loves cats. Her LTW is to reach the top of the criminal career. I considered the other theft one, but remembered that I don’t know how to play this game, we’re gen 1 and broke, and we need to find a spouse, so maybe leave the harder LTWs for later, once I’ve got the hang of it.

Warnings: Swearing, CAPSLOCK OF RAGE (AND OTHER EMOTIONS), incoherrent rambling, and annoying references to wrestling.

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 2.5

What happened last time, then?

Stuff. Brie is now the torcholder because I blew up Nikki’s lot in a stupid mistake. I hate Brie’s husband, Sorin, who is creepily obsessed with her. They have three kids, Trish (a goth), Stardust (a cute shy alien), and Heath (a clone of Tyson, right down to his hair).

To be honest, nothing much really happened, except we established I’m the dumbest thing that ever lived when I borked Nikki’s lot.

Also, this update is from my old computer. I didn’t want to say anything, but when I swapped over, I mislaid my to-do folder containing all of the pictures from here to generation 4.1 (I think, or at least the conception of 4.1). I remembered making a point to copy it on to my external drive, I just couldn’t fathom where my (admittedly quirky) filing system had felt it best to copy it to.

As it turned out, I’d copied it to a perfectly logical place (a folder called “unfinished” above where my completed entries live), but because it was such a logical thing to do, it never occurred to me to check there.

I remember having a computer with a 500MB hard drive, and if I wanted to rip a movie for fanvidding, I would have to copy everything to a bunch of CDs, delete it, and put it back after I’d ripped the ISO file. Life was simpler back then (well, maybe not simpler, but smaller). Now if I lose something, it could be anywhere on three external drives which total 5TB.

Anyway, I found my images, and here we go with the update.

Quick Update and a funny

25
Mar 2016

So, quick update:

My old computer died and it was very sad, because it had been a hard worker.  However, it only died in a small way — the modem died, so I couldn’t get online.  However, the poor thing was about eight years old, so I decided it was time the computer retired.  With it being such a small death (and wow, do I love this computer or what for not exploading or destroying my files, as previous computer deaths have done), and I was able to back up everything on it, and put it on the new replacement computer.

TS2 took ages to install, because it was a complete nightmare, it kept asking for disc 4 of the base game, which caused it to crash.  Windows 10 is not TS2’s friend.  (Pro Tip: the way around this is to install the base game, download the update, install that, and then install the rest of the games.  It will stop it from asking for the base game final disc.)

I managed to install the Moxleys’ neighbourhood and we seem to be a go there (although the shadows are solid black rectangles under everything at the moment).  However, I haven’t had time to do much more than test.

Also, gloaty moment: a vanilla install of every TS2 EP and SP loads in 58 seconds.  And with 10gb of custom content, it loads in 2 minutes.  And given that I was delighted when I got it down to 15 minutes from 45 on my old computer, my tiny brain can hardly comprehend how quickly everything goes.

With that in mind, I thought, right, let’s load TS3.  Now, the reason I’ve never particularly fallen for TS3 is because on my old computer it took ages to load everything.  My computer was a hard worker, but it had limitations, and with TS3, my poor little sim would be surrounded by white blocks for ages while each texture loaded.  Naturally, this made doing a legacy pretty much impossible, because who wants to see a sim doing anything surrounded by solid white blobs?

It runs like a dream on my new computer.  It’s so sleek and quick, and I quickly fell in love with all of the things I liked about it before, without most of the problems I faced before (thought I’m still not a fan of the pudding faces).  I love the gardening, and the fact that one of my sims routinely chows down on raw garlic, which leaves her both full of food and amused that she has garlic breath.  I love create a style.  I love the dramatic trait.  And I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE the horses.  By far, this was the best selling point of the whole series for me.

And so, without further ado, I present my sim, learning to ride her new horse up a slight incline:

ARTAX! STUPID HORSE! You’ve gotta move or you’ll die! Move, please! I won’t give up! Don’t quit! Artax! Please!

The Moxley Legacy

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 2.4

So, last update I did something so magnificently stupid that someone ought to give me a medal.

Even worse? After playing this game for twelve years, I didn’t know it was stupid.

Here is the stupid thing I did.

The Moxley Legacy
For the love of all that is holy DO NOT GIFT GRAVE STONES.

I have managed to destroy my legacy, for the sake of a quick joke. I am ridiculously stupid.

Since that update, I haven’t managed to get into Nikki’s lot for longer than a minute before it crashes my game. At first, I didn’t even know what was wrong, so I cleared out my downloads – which, to be fair, I should’ve done ages ago. Quick pro-tip? Use this wonderful, awesome and magical tutorial.

Eventually, after a bit of googling, it suddenly occurred to me that gravestones are odd little blighters, and Maxis gave us free rein to do what we want to them, despite the face it will bork games. And that’s when I found out that gifting tombstones is fatal to the lot.

So, since I didn’t want to start a new legacy, I moved over to Brie’s lot. Which crashed, because she had the gravestone too. I managed to reload, then the first thing I did was send the tombstone to a custom community lot, then reloaded, and Brie’s lot now works.

Only problem, I’d played Brie a bit so she and Sorin are married and have two kids already, so we missed the toddler stage.

tl;dr: WE ARE PLAYING BRIE NOW BECAUSE I AM STUPID.

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 2.3

Catch up: 1.1 | 1.2 | 2.1 | 2.2

Nikki, gen 2 heir, attended college where she was initially Grilled Cheese, and it drove me up the wall. Thankfully, she did well enough to re-roll her aspiration and became Popularity instead.

Her lifetime want is to have 50 Dream Dates, which is awesome. It’s one of my favourite aspirations, because it keeps the Sims happy, mood-boosted and if you date enough rich folks, you get lots of free swag.

All dream dates so far have taken place with the love of her life, Garruck. Garruck’s twin brother, Sorin, is married to Nikki’s twin sister, Brie. Brie is awesome. She cuts bitches.

Also, Nattie and Tyson, Brie and Nikki’s older siblings exist. And nobody cares.

Nikki is now moving home to live with her mothers, Mickie and Harriet.

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 2.2

Catch up: 1.1 | 1.2 | 2.1

Mickie and Harriet (lesbians), had two sets of twins, Nattie (Little Miss Perfect, who later became addicted to strip poker) and Tyson (who was recently abducted by aliens); and Brie (who cuts bitches); and Nikki (the heir).

Nikki found a boyfriend, Garruck, who has alien genetics. Brie’s beloved, Sorin, is Garruck’s twin. You can’t get much more twee than twins dating twins, can you?

Brie cuts bitches. Her two favourite bitches are: Cedric (a guy in combats and a CM Punk shirt), and Bad Santa (I have no idea what Bad Santa’s real name is).

Nikki’s lifetime want is to have 50 dream dates, which I love (free swag from grateful suitors), but have never succeeded in doing before (50 dates is a lot).

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 2.1

Catch up: 1.1 and 1.2

Our founder, Mickie, found NOBODY IN THE WORLD except for Harriet, so we married her and had two sets of twins: Tyson and Nattie, and Nikki and Brie.

Nattie became Little Miss Perfect despite the game’s insistence she missed ONE WHOLE DAY OF SCHOOL, Tyson started to unravel with unfulfilled family wants (ha!), Nikki realised she was the most beautiful thing in the world and Brie refused to react to anything, just like her mother, Harriet.

I sent them to college, and cheated a little to play Mickie up to the top of her career. She is now perma-plat.

I never announced it, but Nikki is heir.

The Moxley Legacy

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 1.2

Catch up: Gen 1.1

Sooo, quick catch up. Last update was full of fail. Not my Sims, but me. I failed to install necessary hacks, I didn’t have useful custom content, and my screen caps were mostly useless.

As far as the Moxleys are concerned, we started with founder, Mickie, who could find absolutely NO-ONE in the world, and then we fell in love with Harriet, the first Sim to walk by. Both women got pregnant, with batches of twins a day apart. First were Nattie and Tyson, then Nikki and Brie.

Also, Wing, my friend told me I’d been numbering this legacy wrong. I previously had switched over to the next generation number at birth, but apparently you only do that when the next gen torch-holder takes over. I bet you can’t wait to read more »
